Idaho Senate Passes Hemp Legalization Bill
The Idaho Senate has approved a bill that would legalize industrial hemp production. Senate Bill 1345 would allow the production and sale of hemp or hemp products containing .3% or less of THC. CBD, however, would not be legalized by the bill.
The Senate voted 27-5 in favor of the bill, which was sponsored by Sen. Abby Lee and Rep. Caroline Nilsson Troy.
Under the bill, the state would have to submit a production plan to the U.S. Department of Agriculture by June 15. The plan would need to be consulted with the governor, the chief law enforcement officer, and Idaho’s agricultural industry.
The 2018 Farm Bill made hemp production federally legal; however, hemp production remains illegal in Idaho, South Dakota and Mississippi.
